Roxy’s Midnight Dunkers: The Social Games is Leeds networking with a sports twist

Some of the best networking events in Leeds are the ones that do things a bit differently. Suits & Vinyl, which encourages delegates to don threads authentic to their musical self, is a case in point. If you’re more partial to American bar sports played to a transatlantic indie rock soundtrack, last week’s The Social Games networking event, held at Roxy’s Lanes on the Headrow, would’ve been up your street.

In addition to copious amounts of booze being chilled in buckets, the event’s private area contained mini baskball and shuffleboard games, alongside numerous pool tables. I recognised a few folk there and met some new ones from companies such as Connect Yorkshire and Candle Digital.

One of the three organisers Ryan Mulhern, whose videography capabiliites I can’t recommend highly enough after he did a cracking job for xDesign on Leeds Unleashed last summer, told me that the next event, a summer social scheduled for June 6, will feature a revamped outdoor format complete with new games.

I took the opportunity to test out my latest gadget – a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 – which is best described as a gimbal vlogging camera. The footage below was captured in auto mode straight out of the camera, as I haven’t had chance to get a grip with its LOG capabilities yet. Still, it performed admirably in low-light and, compared to using an A74 slung onto a gimbal, drew far less curiosity from sozzled onlookers throughout the night.

If you’re interested in attending the next Social Games, chuk Ryan a DM on LinkedIn.
